Who is Vero?

Vero is a predictive health company on a mission to end age-related chronic disease. Built on groundbreaking Stanford University research, Vero uses advanced proteomics and machine learning to measure the biological aging of organ systems from a simple blood test. The Vero OrganAge™ test, now enhanced with Cell Clocks™, is the entry point to Vero Compass™ – a biological intelligence platform that translates complex biological signals into clear, actionable insights that help clinicians and individuals intervene earlier and track meaningful improvement over time. Who is behind the science?

Vero was co-founded by Tony Wyss-Coray, PhD, whose Stanford University lab pioneered proteomic organ-aging research published in Nature (2023) and Nature Medicine (2025). This was followed by his breakthrough "Cell Clock" research in Nature Medicine (2026), which extended these discoveries to the cellular level, providing unprecedented resolution into the exact biological mechanisms driving aging and future disease risk.

The scientific and clinical advisors are Eric Verdin, MD (Buck Institute for Research on Aging), Michael Doney, MD (Biograph), Christin Glorioso, MD, PhD (NeuroAge Therapeutics), and Helen Messier, MD, PhD (Altum Medical).

Why do I need this if I already get an annual physical?

Vero works alongside your annual physical and your doctor, not in place of them.

A standard physical checks basic blood markers against broad population averages to identify active disease or dysfunction. Vero uses advanced proteomics to analyze thousands of proteins to evaluate organ and cellular health before routine markers shift out of range.

Instead of waiting for a symptom or diagnosis, Vero provides your clinician with predictive insights to guide targeted preventive care and measure whether interventions are actually changing your health trajectory over time.

You do not need it instead. A routine panel checks a handful of markers against population reference ranges and is designed to catch things already out of range. An organ age reading asks how each system is tracking relative to people your age. It is a wellness and research measurement you bring to your clinician.
Is Vero available yet? Where can I get it?

Vero is not yet broadly available to the public, with full consumer availability planned for 2027. Currently, Vero’s OrganAge™ is accessible exclusively through select clinical research partnerships.

What is OrganAge™?
OrganAge is a blood test that estimates how old each of your organs looks biologically. One standard blood draw is read against organ-specific proteomic models, returning a separate age for 10+ organs and where each one stands against people your age. The clocks were developed in the Wyss-Coray Lab at Stanford.

OrganAge™ is a blood test that measures biological health at the organ and cellular level. It goes beyond single-number age scores to pinpoint vulnerabilities so you can take action where it matters most.

What is Vero Compass™?
Compass is where your OrganAge result sits alongside your clinical, wearable and lifestyle data, so a reading turns into a focused set of things to work on and you can retest to see how those organs moved. Compass is in development, is not part of the first OrganAge panel, and is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan.

Vero Compass™ is Vero’s biological intelligence platform that translates biological, clinical, and wearable data into actionable health insights. Built for both consumers and clinicians, it predicts where an individual’s health is heading, guides precision interventions designed to slow or reverse organ aging, and measures how each organ responds over time. This creates a continuous feedback loop to track and extend healthspan.

What are Cell Clocks™?

Cell Clocks™ apply the same idea as organ aging but with cellular-level resolution. Instead of estimating an age for an organ, they estimate age for a cell type — neuronal, immune, glial, endocrine, epithelial and musculoskeletal cells among them.

The published work behind them modelled over 40 cell types from more than 7,000 plasma proteins measured in 60,542 people across three cohorts, and found that 20–25% of individuals showed accelerated ageing in a single cell type. Those signatures tracked disease status and predicted incident disease and mortality over 15 years of follow-up. (Nature Medicine, 2026)

What is proteomics?
Proteomics is the measurement of the proteins circulating in your blood. Your genome is a fixed set of instructions; your proteome is what those instructions are producing right now. A standard blood panel checks a handful of proteins one at a time. A proteomic panel measures thousands in one run. OrganAge reads 11,000+.

How can a blood test tell which organ a protein came from?
Nothing about a protein in blood announces where it came from. The link is made statistically, using gene expression atlases recording which tissues produce which proteins. A protein counts as organ-enriched when one tissue produces it several times faster than any other. In the 2023 Nature study, 856 of 4,778 proteins cleared that bar.

How is this different from an epigenetic or DNA methylation age test?
Methylation clocks read chemical marks on DNA, a stable and slow-moving layer. Proteomic clocks read proteins in circulation, which move with current physiology. Neither replaces the other. Vero uses proteins for organ specificity: methylation in a blood sample cannot easily be traced to a particular organ, and organ-enriched proteins can.

DNA methylation clocks measure slow-moving chemical marks on DNA, yielding a single overall age score. Proteomic clocks measure circulating proteins from tissues, providing real-time, organ-specific resolution for systems like your heart, brain, and immune. While methylation tracks general biological age, proteomics measures how individual organs change and respond to interventions over time.

In a 2026 Nature Medicine review paper, Drs. Eric Topol and Tony Wyss-Coray highlighted proteomic organ clocks as a major advance, shifting aging science from broad summary scores to targeted precision care.

How much evidence is there behind proteomic organ clocks?
Three peer-reviewed papers underpin the approach: Nature 2023 covering 5,676 adults across five cohorts, Nature Medicine 2025 testing it in roughly 44,500 UK Biobank participants, and Nature Medicine 2026 extending it to over 40 cell types in 60,542 people. These are association studies in large cohorts, not clinical trials.

Three peer-reviewed papers underpin the approach. The 2023 Nature study covered 5,676 adults aged 27 to 104 across five independent cohorts and modelled 11 organs. The 2025 Nature Medicine study tested it at population scale in roughly 44,500 people in the UK Biobank, where brain age was the single strongest predictor of mortality risk in that dataset. The 2026 Nature Medicine paper extended it to over 40 cell types in 60,542 people.

That is a strong and growing research base, and it is still research. Through ongoing clinical studies, Vero continues to advance the validation of OrganAge™ as an established clinical biomarker of healthspan.

Clinical application

What are the limitations of the test?
It cannot tell you whether you have a disease and cannot rule one out. It does not replace screening, imaging or anything your physician has ordered, and it does not tell you how long you will live. It also will not tell you why an organ reads older; the reading is a signal and finding the cause is a clinical question.

Vero OrganAge™ is not a diagnostic tool and may not detect acute or short-term changes. Results should be interpreted in the context of your history and other clinical data.
